PRE-ORDER: Orquesta Barroca De Sevilla - Musica En La Nueva Espana - Ignacio Jerusalem [CD], Orquesta Barroca De Sevilla, CD

Ignacio Jerusalem left Naples as a young violinist and rose, by the 1750s, to become maestro de capilla of Mexico City Cathedral - the most prestigious musical post in colonial Spanish America. There he forged a sound entirely his own: Italianate melodic warmth wedded to the ceremonial splendor of New Spain's devotional life. This recording, largely world-premiere, gathers arias, sacred duets, and a dramatic Lamentation for Holy Friday drawn from cathedral archives in Durango and Mexico City.
