Gold Horatio [LP], Jon McKiel, Vinyl

On Gold Horatio, Jon McKiel and producer Jay Crocker (JOYFULTALK) skew folk and pop forms with nimble reel-to-reel engineering, vintage electronics, dub logic, revisionist grooves and quietly virtuosic instrumental work. Continuing the lineage of 2020's Bobby Joe Hope (Aquarium Drunkard: 'an unlikely masterpiece') and 2024's Hex (Pitchfork: 'oddly affecting' and 'unexpectedly beautiful'), Gold Horatio further crystalizes McKiel's unique song world: a portal to an elsewhere, a mirrorworld, where the language of the mind is free to sing with great lucidity. Gold Horatio is exquisitely alive and dynamic, built from an organic instrumental prowess, searing guitar lines, crisp drum breaks, rich tones, and a human gift for melody.
