PRE-ORDER: Academic Choir Of Nicolaus Copernicus - Kuyavian Folk Songs [CD], Academic Choir Of Nicolaus Copernicus, CD

A captivating journey into the musical heritage of Kuyavia, one of Poland's richest regions of folk song. Drawing on the authentic melodies and texts collected by the great Polish ethnographer Oskar Kolberg, this album presents contemporary choral arrangements by Piotr Becinski that preserve the simplicity and emotional character of the original material. The programme offers a fascinating dialogue between a cappella choral singing and versions with string orchestra, revealing two contrasting facets of these timeless melodies - from intimate, unadorned vocal expression to richer, more lyrical and dance-infused textures.Performed by leading academic and youth choirs from Torun and Bydgoszcz, with the Arte Con Brio String Orchestra, the recording brings together youthful energy, refined choral craftsmanship and a profound sense of Polish musical tradition.Particularly noteworthy is Jedzie Jasio od Torunia, a Kuyavian melody later quoted by Frederic Chopin in his Fantasy on Polish Airs, Op. 13.A distinctive and beautifully crafted release, this album offers both a valuable encounter with Poland's folk heritage and a deeply evocative listening experience.
